Aarch
is short for Aarhus School of Architecture.
In response to an open call, we submitted a new architecture campus project to be constructed in the heart of Aarhus – in the area known as Godsbanearealerne.
Concept & Plan Layout
The program is divided over 2 square floor levels of 88 by 88 meters. The ground floor is an open plan with a height of 10 meters. The large covered space is ideal for architectural experiments and can be opened for public events after school hours. The double facade functions as a greenhouse that can be opened in summer to regulate the indoor climate optimally. The green edge of the building provides a soft transition between the public and semi-public.
The second floor consists of 62 square rooms. The different rooms can be used eighter separately or in combination with others. A system of acoustic curtains and movable furniture provide optimal flexibility. The three patios offer an intimate outdoor space for the students to hang out. The saw-tooth roof is placed diagonally on the footprint of the building. The skylights are orientated to the north to draw in sunlight into the classrooms underneath without overheating the space in summer.
