A contemporary interpretation of the Eastern Aukštaitian sodyba
Located within Labanoras Regional Park in Lithuania, Pašekščiai Homestead is a contemporary interpretation of the traditional Eastern Aukštaitian sodyba.
The project brings together three modest timber buildings a family summer house, a sauna and a barn accommodating a ceramic atelier and artist residencies. Arranged around a shared meadow, the buildings establish a quiet dialogue with the surrounding forest landscape.
Drawing on the region’s vernacular architecture, the design reinterprets traditional building forms through contemporary construction techniques and natural materials, including charred timber and prefabricated straw-insulated walls.
The project explores how architecture can become part of a protected landscape through minimal intervention, low-carbon construction and a close relationship between living, making and nature.
